UPS and SERP Fund New Rapid Response Vehicles
Thanks to the support of UPS and the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust have purchased 2 new rapid response vehicles to enhance the service it provides to the critically ill and injured of Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.
The rapid response vehicles carry full life-saving equipment and drugs exactly like the helicopters enabling them to offer the most appropriate and advanced emergency department level of care at the scene. Unlike the helicopters, the cars are not weather dependent thereby improving the resilience of the service, so that advanced care can be provided to patients whatever the weather or when the helicopters are offline due to maintenance.
In 2014 we conducted a 6 month trial responding to patients during the hours of darkness on Friday and Saturday nights via a rapid response vehicle. The trial proved to be successful with the Doctor/Paramedic Team making a significant difference to the outcome of patients attended during this period. Following the success and with the support of the Trustees we are now working with the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) to look at the feasibility of resuming this service on an ongoing basis in the future.
