Emma’s Double Miracle
Emma Constable had a double reason to be grateful to Essex Air ambulance after giving birth to twins.
Without the air ambulance Emma, 31, would not have had two arms to hold her baby boys.
She nearly lost her life in a horrific road accident five years ago when the van she was driving rolled over.
Emma fell out of the side window and was trapped as the vehicle skidded along the road.
Her right arm was almost severed as she lost skin, muscle and cartilage down to the bone.
She was flown by Essex Air Ambulance to Broomfield Hospital and, after a series of operations and physiotherapy, her arm was saved.
In 2006 Emma and her husband Ivor were delighted at the arrival of twins, Charlie and James.
Emma said: “When I had the accident, I didn’t think I would survive. Eight weeks later, I was walking down the aisle for my wedding”.
“We were over the moon to have the twins and it is a wonderful feeling to be able to hold Charlie and James”.
“I couldn’t contemplate trying to look after twins if I had just one arm. In fact, I think I need an extra pair of arms now”.
Emma and her family, including the twins, are now very dedicated and enthusiastic supporters of Essex Air Ambulance.
