The Essex Bike Safe Show 2010

The 5th Essex Bike Safe Show 2010 took place at Millfields, Burnham-on-Crouch on Sunday 25th April and proved to be a huge success! A great day was had by all who attended the event.

Essex Police Motorcyclists, the Casualty Reduction Board and Essex Air Ambulance with Maldon District Safety Partnership have been working in partnership for the past five years to promote road safety in Essex. This year 37 exhibitors including local dealers and training schools supported the event from all over Essex, which topped last year’s record of 32. Over 1200 bikers attended the event, of which 63 were taken out by the Police for assessed ride-outs and 33 signed up for Bike Safe workshops. Anyone wishing to take advantage of assessed riding by a qualified instructor can visit www.essex.police.uk/bikesafe.

The show also raised funds for the County’s life-saving helicopter. Over £2,700 was raised for Essex Air Ambulance and over 170 bikers took the opportunity to pre-register for the Charity’s 11th annual Motorcycle Run which will take place on Sunday 12th September 2010.

The all new Safe n Sexy Show was a real hit which showcased the latest styles on offer for protective clothing. The fashion show, which included contributions from various local dealers, helped promote the benefits of wearing protective clothing and highlighted how motorcyclists can look really good and be safe at the same time!

Mick Green, Essex Police Bike Safe Co-ordinator said. “What a fantastic event, over 1200 bikers riders attended, we had 37 exhibitors and completed 63 ride outs. The Safe n Sexy Show was a real success demonstrating that good protective equipment does not have to be expensive. Our thanks to Cannon BMW, Parkinson Motorcycles, Colchester Kawasaki and T K Cope Motorcycles for providing the demo bikes and a really big thank you to Essex Air Ambulance for organising the event.”

David Hadjicostas, Deputy Community Safety Manager for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service adds, “Essex County Fire and Rescue Service really enjoyed being part of the 2010 Bike Safe Show which was a tremendous success. It enabled us to engage positively with Essex’s motorcyclists on a range of safety and related issues, helping us to meet our objectives of promoting safer riding and reducing the number of motorcycling casualties in Essex.”

Wendy Byland, Events Manager of Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust said, “
We are thrilled with the success of the fifth Bike Safe Show. The Show saw the launch of pre-registration for our 11th Annual Motorcycle Run on 12th September 2010. Everybody that pre-registers for the Motorcycle Run will be entered into a prize draw run by Heart Essex to win a stunning BMW F650 GS motorcycle worth £6,500 kindly donated by Cannon BMW.”
