Essex Air Ambulance Flying High with Bike Safe Show
The 6th Essex Bike Safe Show 2011 took place at Millfields, Burnham-on-Crouch on Sunday 1st May and proved to be a huge success! A great day was had by all who attended the event.
Essex Police Motorcyclists, the Casualty Reduction Board and Essex Air Ambulance with Maldon District Safety Partnership have been working in partnership for the past six years to promote road safety in Essex. This year 30 exhibitors including local dealers and training schools supported the event from all over Essex. Hundreds of bikers attended the event, of which 62 were taken out by the Police for assessed ride-outs. Anyone wishing to take advantage of assessed riding by a qualified instructor can visit www.essex.police.uk/bikesafe.
The show also raised funds for the County’s life-saving helicopter. Over £1,600 was raised for Essex Air Ambulance and 100 bikers took the opportunity to pre-register for the Charity’s 12th annual Motorcycle Run which will take place on Sunday 11th September 2011.
The Safe n Sexy Show was a real hit which showcased the latest styles on offer for protective clothing. The fashion show, which included contributions from various local dealers; including Parkinson Motorcycles, Newcombe Bros Motorcycles, Hein Gericke & Jim Aim Motorcycles, helped promote the benefits of wearing protective clothing and highlighted how motorcyclists can look really good and be safe at the same time!

Mick Green, Essex Police Bike Safe Co-ordinator, said: “What a fantastic day, hundreds of motorcyclists joined us in the sunshine at Burnham, 62 riders went out on an assessed ride which is the most we have ever done. Our thanks go to the exhibitors that turned up to support the event, we really appreciate it and especially to Essex Air Ambulance who once again put so much hard work into organising this great community event.”
Wendy Byland, Events Manager of Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust, said: “We are thrilled with the success of the sixth Bike Safe Show in partnership with Essex Police. The Show saw the launch of pre-registration for our 12th Annual Motorcycle Run on 11th September 2011. Everybody that pre-registers for the Motorcycle Run will be entered into a prize draw to win a biker makeover/pimp my rider worth £1,500 kindly donated by Jim Aim Motorcycles Ltd.”
