Sunday 11th September 2011 Sponsored by Sun Shines for the Motorcycle Run in Aid of Essex Air Ambulance Against all odds and despite Hurricane Katia being hot on our heels and attempting to blow us off course 4,000 motorcyclists still turned out to support the 12th annual Essex Air Ambulance Motorcycle Run & Harwich Family Festival. The weather predictions did have an impact on the number of bikers taking part but in the end the sun shone. With funds still to come in from biker sponsorships and calendar sales we aim to raise £30,000 for YOUR life-saving helicopter. Check EssexAirAmbulance.uk.com for updates. Wendy Marcon, Events Manager of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust, adds: “I would like to thank everyone who took part for standing by us despite the severe weather predictions, but the sun did come out and the weather held out. Although not as many bikers did the run this year it was still a fantastic event. We are so grateful to the people of Essex for continuing to support us through these challenging times and helping to raise vital funds to keep the County’s life-saving emergency medical helicopter flying. We ensured the event remained affordable in what is a difficult financial climate, by keeping the registration fee at £5 per person. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in helping us to put this event on. As ever, we are grateful to a host of people and organisations for their hard work and commitment. I would like to especially thank Woodland Group who came on board as the Headline Sponsor plus our other sponsors and the Committee for all their help, without whom the event would not go ahead. ” The bikers that took part were welcomed into Harwich by Kevin Stevens, Chairman of Woodland Group with the Mayor and some 2,000 visitors on the finish line. Kevin Stevens, Chairman and CEO of the Woodland Group, said: "It was a real pleasure to support the Essex Air Ambulance and be a part of an event which was enjoyed by so many local people. Once again, the Motorcycle Run & Harwich Family Festival was a tremendous success - not least because of the hard work of the Air Ambulance team, who do so much for the people of Essex. Congratulations to all involved." Bikers at Dunton were treated to two performances on the test track by the Moto Stunts International (MSI) display team. Lead by Tony and Brandon Baily their display team includes skilled trick and freestyle display jumpers, plus the youngest riders from just 7 years of age. The crowds at Harwich enjoyed live music and entertainment on stage from local bands Squabbler and Soulved plus singer Loran Morgan. For the second year running, the star of the show, Essex Air Ambulance, landed on Harwich seafront welcomed by crowds of supporters who had the unique opportunity of meeting the Crew and seeing the aircraft up close and personal! Plus, supporters could have their photograph taken with the helicopter and Crew in exchange for a donation. Essex Air Ambulance Celebrity Patron Jodie Marsh made a special guest appearance at the Harwich Family Festival and was on hand to sign copies of the Limited Edition Official 2012 Motorcycle Run Calendar featuring Jodie plus sports bikes, Harleys, KTMs and a Goldwing trike. All bikers that pre-registered to take part in this year’s Motorcycle Run were automatically entered into a prize draw to win a unique motorcyclist makeover worth £1,500 courtesy of Jim Aim Motorcycles. Ian Aim of Jim Aim Motorcycles Ltd, said: "This year's Motorcycle Run was definitely the best we've been involved with and it has been a privilege to be part of an event that promotes the best of biking and supports such a worthy cause. Superbly organised, at a stunning venue with beautiful sunshine and 1000's of happy bikers...fantastic!" For the very first time the pre-registration prize draw took place live on stage at Harwich. Congratulations to Jackie Lainchbury from North Weald whose sticker number was first to be drawn. She said: “It was a lovely surprise to win the prize and I am sure I’ll have fun deciding what to spend it on. There were a number of us from George Racing, a fun group started between friends, taking part in the run. Unfortunately, two of our lads Bendy Cottrell and Greg Hitchings, both aged 25, were involved in a fatal crash in May this year. The Air Ambulance attended and in tribute to the boys we raised money for this vital service. My thanks and congratulations to all the team at Essex Air Ambulance for sterling work. It would be lovely if they never had to be called but life is not that good and as bikers we are well aware that we are more likely than anyone else to need their services.” Bikers are reminded to send back their sponsorship forms and money raised to the Fundraising Office no later than Friday 30th September to be in with a chance of winning a tour of the private Ford Heritage Collection workshop and signed motorsport goodies!
