Baby Frankie's story
Frankie was just 6 months old when he was catapulted from his pushchair after being struck by a car at a zebra crossing, resulting in major head injuries.
The Air Ambulance was tasked to provide the emergency care that baby Frankie needed. The HEMS Team of Doctor Adam Chester and Paramedic Steve Dennehy were able to provide an anaesthetic and take over his breathing using the ventilator, before the team then flew him to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where, after further treatment, he was transferred to Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
It is testament to the HEMS model that flight Doctors and Paramedics were able to bring such advanced pre-hospital care at the roadside within minutes of this emergency call.
Meeting the team who helped to save their son’s life was a tearful moment for Frankie’s parents “Frankie is lucky to be with us, I realise what a great job the Aircrew did and I will never forget them.”
